30 January-Sword with Ann Elliotte-
Due to impending weather, this workshop has
been cancelled
13 March-Debke and Veil with Ziba-
Ziba began her dance career in Frankfurt, Germany taking belly dance
classes at the local recreation center. She honed her skills dancing with
Turkish bands, and these experiences led to her mastery of traditional
oriental dance. Her sparkling smile, playful nature, and "vintage oriental"
style made Ziba a popular favorite at Turkish and Arabic restaurants.
She taught weekend seminars, and later sponsored Bert Balladine and
Amaya in Wiesbaden, Germany. In addition to more than 30 years in belly
dance Ziba is an actress, director, author, and film producer. She has
attended numerous seminars, danced in countless haflas, and continues
to enjoy and share her knowledge of this ancient dance form.
10 April-Turkish 9/8 with Shari Bennet Speer-
Turkish “Roman” (Gypsy) dancing is characterized by an energy and
expressiveness that matches the rich and powerful 9/8 rhythms and
melodies that can be heard all over Turkey – as Roman people dance
and play music in the streets, at parties, and at wedding celebrations.
Join Shari to get a taste of the unique foot patterns, earthy hip
movements, and rich vocabulary of gestures that typify this
improvisational and unforgettable dance form, and
experience the freedom and joy of Roman Dance for yourself! Please
note that this is not Turkish Oriental. This is the gypsy dancing that
Turkish Oriental has in its roots.
5 June- Yasmine, "From Combos to Choreography".
This class will include technique and drilling several combinations leading
into a full cabaret routine. Yasmine will also discuss her thoughts on
listening to the music and a simple way of breaking down the "formula" to
creating your own choreography. Afterwards, there will be a hafla to
attend.
Workshops are $30, unless
noted otherwise. They can
be paid in cash at the door,
or by debit/credit card, via
Paypal. The terms of service
for Paypal transactions can
